Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine was a Philadelphia native was born and raised there. Her mother Pam was a back-up singer with Philadelphia International Records. When she was five years old, old, her father landed job as curator for The city's Historic Strawberry Mansion in the Strawberry Mansion section, and her family relocated to the historic landmark. The 2005 graduate from the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in which she was an instructor of vocal music. Sullivan began singing in the school's chorus as a contralto before joining the adult chorus just a few years after that. He was exposed to secular music but was initially limited "I did solos in the church and was approached by someone to sign to an evangelical label when I was eleven but I wasn't prepared to sign that contract," she recalls. At that time, McDonald's held a contest that was open to children living in cities. I was allowed to sing "Accept The Grace God Gives" in The show Showtime at the Apollo. And the audience was very supportive. The singer performed along with Stevie Wonder at his grandson's birthday at the age of thirteen. Sullivan was signed initially to Jive Records at the age 15. In Jive Records, she made an entire album. However, the album was never released. Sullivan was eventually dropped from the label. She maintained a working relationship with Missy Elliott who wrote and recorded several tracks on her debut album, including the buzz single "Backstabbers" which was produced by Timbaland and written by Elliott.
